BARNES AND NORTON. A Genuine, Honest Sparring Match at Market Hall To-night. The soft glove sparring exhibition at Market hall to-night has every indication, if results may be judged by the programme, of being prolific of some of the most exciting athletic sport ever witnessed in St. Paul. The main feature, of course, and one around which great interest centers, will be the contest between Prof. Barnes and Paddy Norton, both well known athletes of this city. In addition to this, some of the most reknowned talent in the state has been engaged and some rare sport is assured. It is generally understood that a number of the members of the legislature have been invited to attend, the object of the exhibition being to demonstrate to their satisfaction that no harm can result from scientific, soft glove contests. The fun will commence about 8 o'clock, and those desirous of procuring good seats should go early. Wilson Heard From. The following challenge, which explains itself, was received at The GLOBE office last night As Mr. C. A. C. Smith is telling around how easy he can do me up, permit me to say that I spar at Market hall this evening, and as I prefer to meet him above all others, I will give him $100 if I do not best him in four rounds with soft gloves. Now, he has no excuse, as it will not cost him one cent to meet me and he can not make money any easier. BILL WILSON. |
