These statistics currently include a population count by area within a county (including the post office listed for each area), a summary of birthplaces for residents in each county, and the racial count for each county. Counties will be added as they are transcribed.

Minnesota Businesses

KinSource has extracted newspaper articles that provide a description of historical businesses in Minnesota. For historians, they chronicle the changes over time with respect to products and services that the state provided to its citizens. For genealogists, they were the businesses that their ancestors owned or were employed with. You can view these records by becoming a KinSource subscriber.

Minnesota State Reform School Records

Reform school records can be important for locating information about children from broken families or orphans since many of these children ended up in institutions. KinSource has extracted selected records from Minnesota State Reform School Inmate books. These records currently include Reform School inmates listed in the 1885 Minnesota State Census. You can view these records by becoming a KinSource subscriber.

Minnesota City Directories

KinSource has created a database containing records from Minnesota City Directories. These records give information about people living an a particular city during a particular year. Some of these directory entries also link to corresponding 1885 Minnesota Census records, providing another method for locating people in the 1885 Minnesota census. You can view these records by becoming a KinSource subscriber.

Minnesota County Histories

County history books are very useful in locating genealogical and historical information. Many counties produced county history books in the late 1800's and early 1900's. KinSource has added a section for county history books to this site which will contain county history books that KinSource owns. The content will be added to as time permits.

Tale of the Week

Old newspaper articles can be interesting and enlightening. They provide a window into the past, not only of historically significant events and people, but also of the lives of the 'ordinary' person. KinSource has selected newspaper articles that hopefully show a slice of Minnesota life in the late 1800's and early 1900's. A new article will be served up each week, so please keep coming back and enjoy!

Finding Aids for the 1910 Federal Census

KinSource has put together some finding aids for Minnesota cities and towns. These may be helpful if you can't find a person in the available census indexes, which sometimes happens due to misspellings by the census taker or census transcriber. If a researcher has an address or approximate understanding of where in a city the desired persons lived, these finding aids can be used to help narrow down the number of census schedules that must be searched.

Note: Reasonable effort has been made to transcribe this information accurately from available records, but there is no guarantee that the information is 100% accurate. There may be some errors in transcription and the original records have been found to contain errors. In some cases, known errors have been corrected in the transcriptions that appear on this site. KinSource takes no responsibility for use of this information; it is provided as is.

The finding aids are as follows:

General Street Layout Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, Mankato, Winona, Virginia.
A general description of the street layout for these cities has been provided to help orient you with the city as a whole.
Ward Boundaries Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, Austin, Mankato, Winona, Virginia.
Descriptions of ward boundaries have been provided from resources available for the 1910 time period. In the case of St. Paul, KinSource has added more descriptive descriptions by using city maps and other finding aids.
City Maps Minneapolis, St. Paul, Mankato.
KinSource has attempted to find maps as close to the census as possible. The maps have been divided into wards. The maps have been obtained from microfilm and are not of the best quality in some cases, but hopefully they will be of some help in locating streets and addresses for that time period.
Enumeration Districts Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Mankato, Winona, Virginia.
A description of the 1910 enumeration districts from the Federal Census is provided. Many of the enumeration districts for the 1910 Federal census equated, one for one, to the electoral precincts. However, some of the larger precincts were divided into 2 enumeration districts. These pages show the enumeration districts from the 1910 Federal census and how they equate to the wards and precincts. A description of the street boundaries is included for precincts that were split into multiple enumeration districts. Since many enumeration districts do not have a description of the street boundaries, you can use the street boundaries that are provided to include or exclude enumeration districts to search, thus narrowing down the schedules that need to be searched for a particular address.
Street Index Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Mankato, Winona, Virginia.
A full street index has been provided for each of these cities. These indices can be used to help locate a particular address within the city. KinSource has also added a designation of the ward or wards in which a street ran for Minneapolis and St. Paul. These designations are meant as an aid in searching and were determined using maps of various time periods. Some streets do not have a ward designation because Kinsource could not locate these streets on the available maps. Reasonable attempts were made to provide accurate ward designations, but they are not guaranteed to be accurate.
Buildings, Blocks, Flats Minneapolis, Duluth, Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Mankato, Virginia.
Sometimes addresses were given as just the name of a flat or building or apartment. KinSource has transcribed this information to help in locating an address that contained one of these designations.
Parks, Squares,... Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Mankato, Virginia.
KinSource provides descriptions and locations of parks, squares and boulevards in these cities.
Cemeteries Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Mankato, Virginia.
KinSource provides locations of cemeteries in these cities.
Hotels Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Mankato, Winona, Virginia.

Asylums, Homes and Hospitals Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Mankato, Winona, Virginia.
